Baby Driver @ Marcus Ridge (now playing)
(Dir. Edgar Wright | UK/USA | 2017)
In a less professional setting, our write-up for this film would be something like:
“AHHHHHHHHHHHH THE GUY WHO MADE SHAUN OF THE DEAD AND HOT FUZZ MADE A HEIST MOVIE AND THERE ARE NON-STOP CAR CHASES AND DON DRAPER AND JAMIE FOXX AND HOUSE OF CARDS GUY AND A SOUNDTRACK FULL OF JAMS AND RUN THE JEWELS AMIRITE?!?”
On second thought, that about covers it.

The Beguiled @ Downer Theatre (Opens Thu, June 29)
(Dir. Sofia Coppola | USA | 2017)
One of our favorite directors, Sofia Coppola, returns to the big screen with this atmospheric adaptation of Thomas P. Cullinan’s A Painted Devil. Set during the American Civil War, The Beguiled primarily takes place at an all-girls boarding school in the South, where an injured Union soldier winds up in the care of the school’s very sheltered female residents. As sexual tensions rise, rivalries develop, resulting in a very unexpected series of events. And unlike the 1971 film of the same name, Coppola chose to tell this tale from the female perspective. The result? Coppola became only the second woman ever to win the Best Director award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
